Gerhard Thür is Emeritus Professor of Roman Law and Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Munich, Professor of Law at the University of Graz, Visiting Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, and visiting professor at several universities, including Brown University, University of Athens, University of Milan, and University of Texas at Austin. He holds honorary doctorates from universities of Athens and Belgrade. Thür’s area of specialization is Roman law and the legal history of antiquity, especially ancient Greek law. He published more than 300 books, articles, book chapters and edited volumes, including Prozeßrechtliche Inschriften der griechischen Poleis: Arkadien (Austrian Academy of Sciences, 1994), and Beweisführung vor den Schwurgerichtshöfen Athens: Die Proklesis zur Basanos (Austrian Academy of Sciences, 1977).
